SEVERE WINTER WEATHER PROCEDURE

VODEC’S SEVERE WINTER WEATHER PROCEDURES
Effective from April 15, 2008

This is intended to explain procedures when VODEC work centers and enclaves would be closed due to severe winter weather.

1. When VODEC announces on Omaha television stations that VODEC work centers and enclaves will be closed consumers are not required to report to those day program locations. VODEC work center, enclave and administration employees are not required to report to work and will receive an administrative unpaid leave day (a). VODEC employees in group and assisted residential settings must report to work and work through shifts until they can be relieved. Consumers in VODEC supported residential settings should contact their VODEC staff with questions; those staff need to be available for consumers’ calls.

2. In Nebraska, if Happy Cab announces on Omaha television stations it will not run because of severe winter weather, Nebraska consumers, including those who use other transit providers’ service, should not report to their day service program locations. Other transit providers in Nebraska will not be expected to transport VODEC consumers on a day when Happy Cab closes due to severe winter weather.        VODEC employees in Nebraska should report to Nebraska locations unless #1 above is implemented.

3. In Iowa, if SWITA announces on Omaha television stations it will not run because of severe winter weather, Iowa consumers should not report to their day service program locations. Other transit providers in Iowa will not be expected to transport VODEC consumers on a day when SWITA closes due to severe winter weather.

4. VODEC employees in Iowa should report to Iowa locations unless #1 above is implemented.

5. A consumer or his or her stakeholders is required to direct calls about whether a transportation provider is running to:

Happy Cab               402-504-2832
Prince of the Road 402-934-2800       SWITA                      712-249-0870
First Student           402-896-0142
Shared Mobility       402-345-6640

6. Important: A consumer or his or her stakeholders are also responsible for calling the consumer’s transit provider if the consumer will not be using the transit service on any given day, regardless of weather or reason.

(a) VODEC employees should refer to current personnel policies for option of unpaid administrative leave.
