What is VODEC?
            The Vocational Development Center, also known as VODEC, is a non-profit organization providing vocational and residential services for people with developmental and other disabilities which enable them to gain employment and live independently.  VODEC was founded in 1968.

What services does VODEC offer?
We offer Vocational , Residential and Adult Day Services.

How can someone access VODEC services?
            To apply for our services or to tour our facilities and meet our staff, please call (712) 328-2638 and ask for our Services Director.
            To be eligible for our programs, an   individual must be at least 16 years of age and diagnosed with a disability or other employment barrier.  This person also should pose no danger to self or others.  Finally, funding for our services must be arranged before a client may start at VODEC.

Where is VODEC located?
            We have three workshop locations:
                        612 S. Main St., Council Bluffs, Iowa
                        6240 Abbott Drive, Omaha, Nebraska
                        4526 South 140th Street, Omaha, Nebraska
            We also have an Elm Adult Day Program locations:
                        6240 Abbott Drive, Omaha, Nebraska

What accreditations or certifications does VODEC have?

  • Vocational Development Center (VODEC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3)corporation.
  • We have accreditation from CARF for Community Employment Services and Organizational Employment services.
  • We are a certified provider of assisted and supported day services by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
  • We are certified to provide vocational services by the Nebraska Department of Education.
  • We are approved by the Iowa Department of Human Services to provide waiver services for persons with mental retardation and Adult Rehabilitation Option services for persons with mental illness.

Are clients in a work training program paid?
            Yes

            VODEC services go through several rigorous accrediting and certification processes to assure the highest level of quality in the services we provide. In addition, we make sure that family members, healthcare professionals and legal guardians of the people we serve are in involved at all levels of agency oversight.
            VODEC’s dedicated staff places the highest priority on preserving the rights and dignity of those we serve.
